Movie Marathon: Hellboy 2 & Dark Knight

Went for a mini marathon today at GSC Pavilion, watching Hellboy 2: The Golden Army and Dark Knight back-to-back, and had more Coke than I ever had in a year but what a return! Okay, maybe not, maybe just a half ROI & ROH (Return of Health), was kinda-little disappointed at Hellboy 2, something's missing in there, but just can't quite point it out, maybe it's the mushy-ness or maybe we all just wanna see him horny again (we miss seeing him with his horns).

But it turns out that the funniest part of the movie is actually this mushy scene where abe and hellboy drunk singing along with Barry Manilow’s “Can’t Smile
Without You,”.

And one particular scene that standouts/ fresh in my mind (still) is the scenes where HB battling with God of Forest, like the way it was defeated, the way it died, the way it spill its blood and green/plants start growing. Great concept, great effects.

And then..ah ha...the dark knight.

What can I say? The best batman movie ever. More of a suspense thriller that keep you on the edge of your seat (for the surprisingly long running time), or maybe even a crime movie! But a comic book adaptation? Never crossed my mind once during the whole movie. It's as if Batman were merely a character borrowed from a comic book, blended nicely into this brilliantly directed Heat sequel. And this mainly comes down to the excellent and star-studded cast (not too be mistaken with wood-studded cast; read: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman, George Clooney, Chris O'Donnell, Alicia Silverstone and Elle Macpherson in Batman & Robin).

First of all, Ladies and Gentlemen, Villian of the Decade: Joker.

Heath Ledger is the best Joker(or the entire batman villians) ever, he makes Jack Nicholsan's Joker a joke(pun intended). Playful and fearful,
sadistic and insane, he totally stole the limelight from Christian Bale, could have easily be "The Joker" instead of "Dark Knight". A Batman villain winning an Oscar? Why not, I like the way he smacks his lips whenever he's talking.

why..so..serious? we heard him said in the movie, but do you know that he is so serious about his role as the Joker, that he lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's psychology, posture and voice (the last one he found most difficult to do). He started a diary, in which he wrote the Joker's thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance. And that's some serious dedication. We'll miss you.

And Christian Bale. Taller than Michael Keaton was. More menacing than Val Kilmer was. Less like Adam West than George Clooney was. Solid and committed as always. He gives the character life, and actually makes us feel for him. Same goes with Sir Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman. Great casting. Aaron Eckhart is great as ever, liked him since Thankyou for Smoking.

The plot of the movie was interesting because there wasn't a real linear story. It was more about dealing with right and wrong and people's moral values. Things would happen and at each turn someone had to make a decision that could lead to good things or really bad things. I suppose the story at its most basic is about Batman hunting down the Joker, but really the story is about what each one of us would do in a certain situation. The Joker wants to try and exploit people's values while Batman is determined to hold on to his. It was a rather refreshing story in that there was nothing forced in to try and make it a normal superhero movie. It was dark and depressing and at times, very psychotic, but it certainly made you think.

So overall I enjoyed Dark Knight, it is sure one imperishable, spectacular and chaotically-brilliant movie. Definitely worth watching again and again, though the running time (2 and a half hours) might deter a weak soul...
